Client : Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ)
Year : 2015
In the effort of bringing MPSJ to international level, which is the main goal of its Strategic Plan 2012-2020, as well as being a responsible Local Authority, MPSJ realizes the need to spearhead a green initiative to create a better living for its residence. Consequently, the project MPSJ Green City 2030 was initiated and it falls in a prefect fit with MPSJ brand as The Vibrant City. The City Planning Department and the Corporate Planning Department of MPSJ are the leading departments in making sure this project becomes a reality.
With a window of about 16 years MPSJ has taken several crucial steps to carry out this initiative. However the first order is to really understand the definition of Green City which will then help set the boundaries to the initiative:
• A green city is a city that has the cleanest and most efficient energy, transportation, and building infrastructure possible.
• A green city derives its energy from renewable sources like solar and wind, and distributes that energy through efficient and reliable micro grids.
• A green city is made up of buildings that are energy efficient, conserve water, and reduce waste. A green city is connected by clean and accessible public transportation networks and is biking- and walkingfriendly. A green city is a healthier, more affordable, and more pleasant place to live.
Understanding that this task is huge and many of it will involve creating awareness, educating and inculcating new culture among the public, MPSJ knows that it needs the support from all the different community segments. To start off, MPSJ has identified four of its community segments to work with namely the Resident Associations representing the general public, the Developers, the small business owners and also the manufacturers.
With these selected groups, MPSJ has derived a few quick steps to move forward with the plan to gather more data. Ultimately, with the data, we planned to come up with a more comprehensive MPSJ Green City Action Plan 2030 as the main reference for every party to achieve the desired status as per vision and mission set out.
MPSJ aims to create a green city in Malaysia, where we focus on the sustainability of our neighbourhoods, efficiency, and enhancing local economy as well as meeting the needs of our future generations.
Creating and implementing action plans to make MPSJ a green city that prioritize on the sustainability of the neighbourhoods, efficiency, enhancing local economy as well as meeting the needs of future generations by 2030.
MPSJ Green City Project 2030 needs to take the next step of forming the Action Plan Committee to develop the MPSJ Green City Action Plan 2030 document as the main reference for every party to achieve the desired status as per vision and mission set out.
